EXPERTISE
We are experienced at:
DESIGNING ROUNDABOUTS, TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND OTHER INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS:
We have over 20 years experience with intersection design for safety and operational improvements for all road users including cars, heavy vehicles, buses, motorbikes, pedestrians and cyclists. Particular expertise is in the area of roundabout design, traffic signals, and geometric layouts for both urban and rural contexts. Designers use CAD with AutoTURN vehicle swept path analysis software, and traffic modelling software for analysis of intersection operation.
TRANSPORT RESEARCH:
We have previous involvement with several NZ Transport Agency research projects, and have the necessary skills and motivation for academic work of this nature. A major spin-off from research work is that staff can develop an aptitude for approaching projects of any nature with an application of first-principles to problem solving, and an appreciation of context both national and international.
DESIGNING BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN FACILITIES:
Active modes of transport are one of the important health solutions being promoted in the 21st century, and virtually all new transport infrastructure has to take this into account in some way or another. TRAFFESSIONALS are led by a keen cyclist with a research interest in this area, and over 15 years experience designing cyclist and pedestrian infrastructure. Providing for pedestrians can be no less challenging at times, and is a prerequisite competency for designing in the urban environment.
ROAD SAFETY STUDIES AND AUDITS:
We have extensive experience with road safety design from concept to detail design, safety audits, and crash studies for both urban and rural networks. We are also familiar with Safer Journeys, the New Zealand Transport Agency road safety strategy for 2010-2020 and the Safe System approach to road safety.
RURAL ROAD HIGHWAY AND MOTORWAY DESIGN
We have undertaken preliminary design through to construction for improvement works on high speed rural roads and highways, including past involvement with ramp metering on the Auckland motorways.
TRAFFIC IMPACT ASSESSMENTS AND CARPARK DESIGN:
We have experience in preparing Traffic Impact Assessments for resource consent applications, reviewing applications for Road Controlling Authorities (RCA’s), analysing effects of a proposed development to the wider street network, and designing carpark and driveway layouts. At times this may include discernment of justifiable departures from RCA guidelines.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND SECONDMENT WORK
We have experience at project management and seconded placements with Road Controlling Authorities to assist them with their workloads. Staff have in the past been permanent employees of both Consultant and Local Council organisations around New Zealand, so are familiar with their working environments and many of their systems.
